In an effort to clarify and make consistent our school references, the Style Committee has crafted some rules to follow. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask Darrin or other members of the committee.

University names
For schools in the University of California and California State University systems, abbreviate to UC and CSU on first reference and use the city name:
CSU Bakersfield
UC Merced
For nearby, commonly used school names, UCLA, CSUCI, UCSB and CLU are acceptable on second reference; all others should retain the city names in subsequent references.

Exceptions:
California Lutheran University. CLU or Cal Lutheran are acceptable on second reference.
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Cal Poly Pomona is acceptable on second reference.
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is acceptable on second reference.
Humboldt State University
San Diego State University
San Francisco State University
Thomas Aquinas College
University of Southern California. USC is acceptable on second reference.

Local community colleges
Ventura College, Moorpark College, Oxnard College.
They are run by the Ventura County Community College District, but neither "community" nor "junior" is part of their names.
